Special film screening presented by the Friends of the Jewish Holocaust Centre of "Woman of Gold" (2015) Starring Helen Mirren, Ryan Reynolds, Daniel Brühl. Directed by Simon Curtis.

Academy Award winner Helen Mirren stars in the incredible story of Maria Altmann, a Jewish refugee who is forced to flee Vienna during World War II. Decades later, determined to salvage some dignity from her past, Maria has taken on a mission to reclaim a painting the Nazis stole from her family: the famous ‘Lady In Gold’, a portrait of her beloved Aunt Adele.

The Australian Centre for Jewish Civilisation (ACJC) will present a public lecture on 'The Holocaust and the Soviet Union'.

This will be the only public event of The Dr Jan Randa Aftermath Workshop in Holocaust and Genocide Studies on the theme of The Holocaust and the Soviet Union – which will be held in Melbourne on 27 and 28 May, 2015.

Hear from workshop participants about new research findings on the Holocaust and the Soviet Union.

'Father' (1990)

Anne is a happily married young mother. She lives in a suburban hotel with her husband, two young daughters and her elderly father, Joe, who migrated from Germany after the war.

Guest Speaker: SAM MOSHINSKY OAM will give a lecture on “Jewish Shanghai”.

Sam Moshinsky was born in Shanghai in 1934 and lived there continuously until he arrived in Australia in 1951, at the age of 17. He described his experiences of growing up there, spanning an eventful period of history, in an autobiography entitled Goodbye Shanghai.
