The JHC Film Club will be screening the documentary "Sugihara: Conspiracy of Kindness" (2000) USA 103 mins followed by guest speaker, Sue Lewis, JHC Guide.  Director: Robert Kirk.

The story of Japanese diplomat Chiune Sugihara, consul to Lithuania during World War II, who defied Tokyo authorities and wrote transit visas allowing Jewish families to flee Europe to Japan and other countries. 

While Germany and Japan were United against American forces during World War II, one Japanese man made his own brave attempt to fend off the Nazi holocaust in Europe, and this documentary tells his remarkable story.

In this tender coming-of-age drama based on a true story, a Jewish boy finds friendship, camaraderie and safety in the shelter of a children’s hospital in Nazi-occupied France.

Australian premiere of 'Santa’s Story', presented in association with the Jewish Holocaust Centre and starring Aviva Pelham.

When 90-year-old Santa Pelham was persuaded to write her fascinating life story it was intended just so her memoir would be there for future generations. But Santa's Story became something more: a cathartic Jewish experience, an inspiration for song and recently, a one woman show performed by her daughter, South African diva, Aviva Pelham.

JHC Social Club, Guest Speaker: Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chair, B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission will be giving a lecture on “Now is the Time! Fighting Antisemitism and the Global War against Israel”.

Dr Dvir Abramovich is chair of The B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission, The Israel Kipen Lecturer in Jewish Studies and Director of the Program in Jewish Culture and Society at The University of Melbourne.
