Book launches uplift the legacy of Holocaust survivor memory

In October, seven hundred people registered across our two book launches. The popular online events featured publications telling Holocaust survivor stories through the lens of their daughters, with books recently released by Real Film and Publishing.

At the A Gift of Time launch early in the month, prominent playwright Joanna Murray–Smith spoke with author Frances Prince about documenting her survivor father’s, David Prince, Holocaust and post-war memories.

“The most interesting book launch I’ve ever attended,” said Rev. Dr Julie Hall. “I was fascinated on several levels … and l could have listened for so much longer. Needless to say, I’m looking forward to reading [the] book! What a wonderful gift to the wider community for generations to come.”

To launch Malou: French Resistance Fighter at the end of the month, JHC’s Dr Anna Hirsh engaged in a contemplative conversation with author Michèle Huppert. In captivating detail, Michèle described some of the book’s stories about her mother’s, Ruth Kneppel, involvement with the French Resistance. The event also integrated fascinating archival footage of Ruth talking about her perilous missions.

In the talk, Michèle reflected on her mother’s post-war life, “Everything [my mother] had done in the past belonged to the past, and she was facing the beautiful future.” She considered the book finally giving Ruth, “a place in the world where she will be recognised for the work that she has done.”

We love welcoming our community at book launches to celebrate an author’s achievement while uplifting the legacy of survivor memory. Those who missed the recent launches can watch the event recordings at the links below:
